MedPics provides imaging expert physicians from a variety of countries. You have access to the experts’ profile, including years of experience, publications, awards, patient testimonies. These are mostly Radiologists, although medical imaging experts from other medical specialties are included (e.g. vascular surgeon, neurosurgeon etc.). MedPics also provides access to group practices or hospitals.
1. Is MedPics a sole second opinion service?
A: NO! It is an archive for all your medical imaging which you can share with anybody you trust. You can ask for a second opinion based on an imaging study from an expert of your choosing.
2. Who are the medical imaging experts?
A: They come from different countries. MedPics does verify their medical credentials and provides a detailed profile on the website. You can browse the list of medical imaging experts on MedPics after having created your profile. Some of the medical imaging experts might be from your local area, some might be nationally or even internationally recognized. Most will be Radiologists, but you might also find other specialties such as Neurosurgeons, Vascular Surgeons etc.
3. How are medical imaging experts selected?
A: They can approach MedPics and create a profile and – after MedPics confirms their credentials – their profile will be posted on MedPics. MedPics also recruits medical imaging experts who will enhance our service worldwide.
4. What is the difference if I contact a single physician or a group of physicians or a hospital on MedPics?
A: In any way you can chose directly the individual imaging expert you want to contact. However, MedPics will provide a platform for physician groups or hospitals to reach out to you. Thus, you can find institutions in addition to single physicians who you already know and you trust.
5. What information do I need to provide?
A: Any information you want can be uploaded and sent to the imaging expert. You might include medical documents but in particular medical images. Your images can be uploaded and saved anonymously as well. At the time of creating your profile on MedPics you need to provide some personal information so that MedPics can deliver its service to you.
6. How can I share my medical images?
A: MedPics does provide an upload tool that allows you to transfer images from a storage device (i.e. CD, DVD, memory stick, local storage) to a “cloud” archive. Images can even be stored anonymously, without your identifiers. Then you can give anybody who has an account on MedPics access to view your medical images.
7. Are my files secure on MedPics and how long will they be stored?
A: MedPics provides a HIPAA compliant environment and uses patented security technology that keeps patient information safe. Image data is shared via a secure web link and can only be accessed by the imaging expert authorized by you or by other authorized personnel. Images are stored for 7 years, but may also delete your images at any time yourself.
8. How do I communicate with the imaging expert?
A: Communication is provided by MedPics through a messenger system. In addition, medical imaging experts may offer additional sources of communication, such as Skype. However, this cannot be requested. A written report can be requested in all cases.
9. How much does an imaging consultation cost?
A: MedPics offers a platform where you set a price you are
comfortable to pay. The imaging expert can accept, deny or negotiate with you a different price. Medical imaging experts may also have a set price, which will appear in their profile.
10. How long does it take to receive an expert opinion?
A: You can determine your time requirement, which can range from not urgent to urgent. This might affect the pricing of the service.
11. Should my decision for medical treatment depend on the medical imaging expert response only?
A: No! MedPics provides a worldwide accessible,
additional source of information for the patient
about medical imaging. Any medical treatment
decision should not be based on medical images alone.
This more comprehensive medical service cannot be
provided by MedPics. Please see further information
under “Terms and Conditions”.
12. What is the first step, if I want to use MedPics?
A: You need to set up a free profile under “registration”.
Then you will have access to the profile of all imaging
experts and the health care providers including
physician groups and hospitals.
After this, we suggest that you complete your profile as soon as possible.
