How to Make Your Diet Healthier

One of the most important things you can do to protect your health is to eat a healthy, well-balanced diet. In fact, more than 80% of stroke and premature heart diseases in the US can be prevented through healthy eating habits and life choices.

Diet might sound like a tough thing to come up with, but everyone has their own diet. Whatever you might call it. Diet is simply what you eat at what time. How can you make it healthier?

Eating vegetables and fruits

Eating a lot of vegetables and fruits provides you with a lot of nutrients (vitamins, antioxidants, minerals, and fiber) that are beneficial to your body. Fruits are part of a balanced diet, and they vary in their nutritional properties. Some people are concerned about eating too many fruits as they are high in natural sugars. For the average person, eating a lot of fruits is amazing as long as it’s part of a balanced diet. However, fruits are naturally healthy and beneficial to your health. Add lots of them to your diet.

Eat whole-grain foods

In place of traditional refined grain bread, you can make your diet healthier by going for whole-grain bread. Whole-grain foods have been linked to health benefits such as reduced risk of type 2 diabetes. Whole grains are also excellent sources of vitamin B, fiber, and minerals such as iron, zinc, manganese, and magnesium. A quarter of your plate should contain whole grain options.

Eat lots of proteins

Nutritionists sometimes refer to protein as the king of nutrients, and those who eat it daily say it seems to have superpowers. Proteins can affect hunger and satiety hormones and is one of the most filling of all macronutrients. A study once showed that eating a high protein meal can decrease ghrelin levels compared to a high-carb meal in obese people.

Proteins also help build and maintain muscles, skin, and bones. For the best results, try and eat two servings of fish every week and often go for plant-based foods.

Reduce processed foods

Processed foods are changed from their original food source and have unnecessary ingredients. Most important nutrients such as minerals, fiber, and vitamins are removed during processing, and sugar and salt are added. Good examples of processed foods include chips, cookies, fast foods, white bread, white rice, and frozen pizzas. These have zero nutritional value and are inflammatory to the gut.

If you want to make your diet healthier, eat a healthy, well-balanced diet. Add fruits and animal proteins to your diet. Limit the amount of calories you eat and exercise regularly.
