Things You Should Avoid Applying On Your Face

Different skin types require different treatments. Taking care of your face sometimes involves applying beneficial products on the face. However, if you aren’t careful, some products do more harm than good. If you want smooth and glowing skin, you can’t apply just any product on your face. Adverts deliver the message, but they aren’t inclined to suggest the best for your skin. As much as there are amazingly beneficial products for your face out there, there are products with ingredients that should be avoided if you don’t want acne breakouts and a rough face.

Lotion

Many people use body lotion on their face frequently, especially when they run out of sunscreen or face creams. Most people apply it on their face from the body to face with no remorse. However, not all skincare products are the same, which applies to lotion. The body lotion is thicker, oilier, and more fragrant than face creams formulated for use on the face. Applying lotion on your face might lead to breakouts and allergic reactions. Use gentle, fragrance-free, and oil-free facial cream and moisturizers.

Hot Water

In the same way, you would never use hot water to wash your hair, don’t use it on your face. A steam facial works great on the skin but never replace it with hot water. The hot water leads to moisture loss on the outer layer of the skin, making it dry. Instead of hot water, use lukewarm water or go for a steam facial.

Lemon Juice

Lemon juice is loaded with vitamin C, which is beneficial to your body, especially the immune system. Vitamin C brightens the skin and smooths the fine lines on the face. However, it is acidic when applied directly on the face and irritates your face. It can also lead to dry skin, which is prone to cracking. Lemon juice can also lead to a skin reaction called phytophotodermatitis. The reaction happens when you expose chemicals in certain plants and fruits to sunlight or ultraviolet light. The rash is so uncomfortable though it goes away on its own.

Coconut Oil

It’s an amazing product, and some people say it works magic on the skin. However, coconut oil is 90% saturated fat which clogs your pores. You can use it as much as you want for the rest of your body but keep it away from the face. In fact, research shows that it contains auric acid that has zit-fighting powers and helps with eczema or severe dryness.

Different products have different reactions to your skin. Above are some, but others like toothpaste and baking soda which some beauty gurus swear with should never be used on your face. Before using any product on your face, read the ingredients and understand if they might harm your skin. If you have access to a dermatologist, consult him for the best products to use on your face. Avoid trying all pimple-free DIY products you read about.
