You may be aware of the conventional early signs and symptoms of pregnancy such as missed periods, tender breasts, morning sickness, etc. Apart from these, there is a number of other pregnancy symptoms you have never been told about. A woman goes through a roller coaster ride when pregnant. Every pregnancy is different in itself. Every woman experiences different symptoms with variable intensity. We have compiled a list of weird early pregnancy symptoms for you. Have a look:

  • Early pregnancy vaginal discharge: it is not the normal vaginal discharge. Pregnant women secrete a sticky, white, or pale-yellow discharge throughout the pregnancy, especially in 1st trimester. Increased vaginal flow and pregnancy hormones are responsible for this discharge. There is nothing to worry about the discharge unless you notice:
  1. Itch
  2. Burn
  3. Foul smell
  4. Greenish-yellow color
  5. Change in consistency, either watery or very thick

Visit your doctor as soon as you notice any of the above mentioned signs because it might be an infection [1].

  • False periods: around 25 to 40% of women will notice spotting during early pregnancy [2]. This bleeding is not periods. A little bleeding is normal when a fertilized egg attaches to the uterine walls. It is known as implantation bleeding, common after 2 weeks of conception. However, you should not be careless as it might be due to ectopic pregnancy, cervical irritation, and threatened miscarriage. Make sure to visit a doctor as soon as you suspect that something is wrong.
  • Heartburn: hormonal changes during pregnancy alter the entire physiology of your body, including the opening between your stomach and esophagus. During pregnancy, this passage does not close completely allowing gastric acid reflux. This causes chest burning. Eat smaller and frequent meals to avoid heartburn. Also, cut down on fried and spicy food.
  • Mood swings: Pregnancy hormones turn your world upside down. Your emotions change suddenly from this to that. Your libido change from hot to cold to very hot. You feel like crying at once. This is very common during early pregnancy [3]. A huge number of women go through mood changes during pregnancy.
  • Metallic taste: an increase in the levels of estrogen and progesterone can alter the taste of pregnant women. Metallic taste is common during pregnancy. This condition is known as dysgeusia [4]. You might feel like that you have been munching on some pennies. Treat yourself with some snacks and sugar-free gums to get rid of metallic taste. Also, eat spicy food and cold water.
  • Dizziness: you might feel like your room is spinning. You might also be unable to rule out whether you are spinning or your room is spinning. Pregnancy causes dilation of the blood vessels leading to a drop in blood pressure. This drop makes you feel dizzy and light-headed [5]. However, pay attention to your symptoms and visit a doctor if you sense anything wrong.
