How to Stick To Your Diet on Vacation
Dieting can be challenging at the best times, especially when you go on a vacation where all bets are off. At home, it's easier to create a routine and habits that support your lifestyle change, but new environments are filled with temptation. Even though it may be harder to stick to your diet while on vacation, don't fear because it is something possible. These tips will help you enjoy your vacation without throwing your progress out the window.
Plan your meals
An impulsive meal out there is always the biggest diet killer. On vacation, it's always tempting to adopt the mindset that you deserve to splurge. While you treat yourself, overeating will only make you feel worse when all is said and done. Instead of making every meal a big affair, enjoy one meal per day and always eat the rest in your hotel room. Planning your meals and shopping ahead of time will make it easier to settle for the right food when hunger calls.
Drink plenty of water
Staying hydrated is the first step in curbing cravings. Do not let good hydration habits fall to the wayside while on vacation. Rather than spending money on overpriced bottled water, always pack a reusable water bottle wherever you go.
Schedule an early workout
Instead of trying to fit in a midday workout, usually wake up early so that you can squeeze in some exercise before the rest of the world wakes up.
Limit drinking
Alcohol is a whole mess of a total calorie bomb. Avoid indulging in drinks with dinner and brunch and limit the number of drinks you take when you partake. It will save you money, protect your waistline and make you enjoy your more explicit memories of your travels. If you want something to sip on, take sparkling water with lime because it's low-calorie and refreshing.
Pack snacks
Vacation means long days of exploration, and you are sure to work up an appetite with all the activities. However, local shops tend to be filled with carb-heavy and sugar-loaded snacks that, while delicious, are not good for your health. Usually, pack the individual proportions of healthy snacks before each outing so that you have a convenient option to turn on.
Visit a farmers market.
When exploring the local foods without overindulging, hit the farmers market instead of bakery or café. You will get the taste of the local flavors from the farmers' market as you marvel at the stand of fresh, nutritious fruits and vegetables.
