Stem Cell: How They Are Being Used to Treat Diseases

Stem cells are cells of the body extracted from 4 different sources. They can be extracted from embryonic tissues, adult tissues, fetal tissues, and somatic cells.

After being harvested, stem cells are later transplanted into damaged tissue in the body after surgical procedures. If a patient doesn't have the required stem cells, a donor may have their stem cells extracted and used on the patient.

Stem cells have been used to treat a variety of illnesses. Such diseases include anemia, leukemia, and bone marrow cancers. Below are some of how stem cells are being used to treat diseases;

They Are Being Used to Regenerate Tissues.

Stem cells in the body also play a huge role in tissue regeneration. Researchers have found that stem cells incorporated into the body give out growth factors essential in tissue regeneration.

Once a tissue has been regenerated, the healing process is accelerated and enhanced as a patient will be healthy. Diseases such as cancer, which damages tissues in the body, rely on the incorporation of stem cells to help in the healing of the body.

They Are Being Used to Replace Damaged Cells.

Many researchers are conducting experiments on how stem cells can become different cells. After the stem cells become different cells, they can be used to treat specific diseases and be incorporated into specific tissues and organs to enhance treatment.

A good example is stem cells used to treat cancer and burns by completely replacing the human skin. Stem cells also play a pivotal role in cell regeneration, which enhances recovery rates and boosts the immune system in chronically ill patients.

They Are Being Used to Understand How Diseases Come About

Stem cells are vital in understanding how various ailments occur and how they affect the body. This process is achieved when researchers grow the stem cells in various body tissues and organs.

Researchers later analyze and watch how stem cells grow and behave under different environments to understand what may bring about diseases. As they observe, they also take data which will be used to figure out how diseases occur, such as cancer.

Once they understand how diseases occur, they are in a good position to know what treatments are required to eradicate or reduce their effect on the body. In conclusion, stem cells play a vital role in treating diseases with high fatality rates, such as cancer. By understanding the stem cells, proper medical attention is administered to patients.
